Skip Spamassassin DNS Check If Using MailScanner DNSBL Check

Spamhaus has the limitation for DNS queries from one host. If you are using MailScanner DNSBL Check please edit the configuration under

/etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf

to add

# By default, SpamAssassin will run RBL checks. If your ISP already
# does this, stop RBL checks in SpamAssassin by un-commenting the
# following line

skip_rbl_checks 1

This will make sure the DNSBL queries is only used by MailScanner not by Spamassassin to scan the same email.

We also received spam from people that used Googlegroup and Yahoogroup. For temporary solution we have disabled Auto Whitelist because it produced failed positive for this type of spam.

# The --auto-whitelist and -a options for "spamd" and "spamassassin" to
# turn on the auto-whitelist have been removed and replaced by the
# "use_auto_whitelist" configuration option which is also now turned on by
# default.

use_auto_whitelist 0

Please also check the /etc/mail/spamassassin/mailscanner.cf and remark those setting so that the setting inside /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf will be used.

OpenLDAP Configuration Automation

We are building a SPEC RPM that will help to automatically setup a basic OpenLDAP server. It will ask important questions like domain name and the password for the openLDAP manager account.

The flow :-

(1) Check and install dependencies. OpenLDAP Server
(2) ask for domain name
(3) Ask for Manager password
(4) create the ldif
(5) alter Openldap server /etc/ldap/sldap.conf
(6) restart
(7) load basic ldif

We need to make sure the domain is valid and support virtual hosting.

Simple steps

(1) Copy the tar.bz2 file to /usr/src/redhat/SOURCE
(2) Copy the above spec file to /usr/src/redhat/SPEC and name it

You need to install development packages and rpmbuild to build RPM.

This installation is using CentOS 5 as the main Linux Operating
System. Your installation may be different with Red Hat and Fedora.
Opensuse may vary need to get the right RPM name for the packages.

(1) Install Packages needed as per CentOS 5.

spamassassin, mysql, mysql-server, perl-DBI, perl-DBD-MySQL,
perl-Net-Daemon, perl-libwww-perl

or by yum

(2) Start the Mysql Server and create database name bayesianmysql
(login as root)

Assign the user

GRANT ALL ON bayesianmysql.* to bayesianmysql@localhost identified by
'yourpassword1234';

Change the password yourpassword1234 to your own.

(3) Create the tables needed by the database.
